Destroying the portals between worlds was supposed to force the entity out of Rale. Instead, it's trapped him there.

This has cut Nolost off from much of his power, buying some time to try to stop him from annihilating the world. Dante and Blays' last hope lies in finding someone or something called the Burdan rah Saylan. Knowing nothing about the Burdan except for their name, they travel far to the east into lands they've never heard of.

There, they discover that the Burdan are a secret order founded by a god thousands of years ago. They wield the mithir, an unknown form of sorcery developed to kill Beyonders, whom Nolost is using as his army—and this power might even be able to kill Nolost himself.

Training in the mithir might well kill them. But with all other hopes exhausted, Dante, Blays, and Gladdic race to harness its power before the entity can finish bringing Rale to its end.

But the entity's been hunting them all along. He knows what they've been doing. And he means to kill them before they've gained the strength to fight back.

The Shattered Path is the second-to-last book in the Cycle of Galand.

Good reading!

I am a big fan of this series. I was waiting for this book and looking forward to its end. If you enjoyed previous books you will enjoy this one. It is a bit complicated and convoluted BUT still enjoyable to read as journey of three friends continues. 😁

Good read

Well written as usual. Good series with some real meat to it. I’d recommend this series, but you have to start at the beginning to know what is going on.

Best series ever

As always this series never disappoints and the character interactions are flawless. What saddens me is I preordered the next book and saw it’s the last. This series was the first audiobook that o ever listened to and I was hooked. Fast forward to today o listen to close to 100 audio books a year. This series has been like an old friend you look forward to visiting once or twice a year. Now it will end. Thank you Edward Robertson and Tim Gerard Reynolds.

Very interesting penultimate book

This book had a lot of interesting character arcs. I listened to it in just over 2 days and couldn’t stop. It feels like it was setting up for an epic finale which I can’t wait to listen to when it comes out.

Fantastic Storytelling

I love this series. The interpersonal conversations between the characters is a riot. Looking forward to book 10!

I like this author but this book felt like a filter episode. Don't get me wrong, it's entertaining enough but at some point this cycle needs to wrap up.

Plumming to 11 dimensions of magic juice

Edward W. Robertson pits Dante, Blays, and Gladdic against Nolost's agents in the, seemingly, fruitless attempt to save Rale from destruction. Through most of the book, we find their attempts to hold back Nolost's forces being thwarted and then end up learning of a new magic source, mithir, that may hold the key to defeating Nolost and saving Rale. Even so, there are several times when their defeats drive them into a hopeless state where both Blays and Dante fall into despair so debilitating that they seriously contemplate suicide. Essentially, this book seems to be positioning itself as the team reaching the nadir of their quest, While this may be an artful way to leave the ending of the book, it made the story mostly unsatisfying.

The Audio quality is terrible.

Let me preface by stating that I LOVE this series and the work of narrator Tim Gerrard Reynolds. I'm only a couple of chapters in and the audio quality is kind of ruining the experience. It's horrible 😞 I will likely update my review once I finish, but I am supremely disappointed.
